Nights at the Circus

Fevvers, an Etching

Anyone who has read Angela Carter's novel "Nights at the Circus" will know that it is a veritable treasure chest of vividly evocative images, rich in texture and detail and just ripe for depicting, any illustrators dream.

This image of Fevvers, the story's feisty protagonist, is an etching. I used this design for the front cover (adding the title and authors name later by hand).

Lantern made from paper cut outs.

The North Wind

Doth Blow and

We Shall Have

Snow
Know it's been a while but here's a seasonal offering. Put this together at the end of 2010 inspired by studies I'd made while on location in the centre of Plymouth. The little rhyme aptly describes the weather's temperament in these parts....... windy. The lantern is four sided and made out of paper.

Christmas card competition

I was inspired by my previous doodle for this years Christmas card competition. I plan to do more collage behind.

Lets hope I can keep this up this time.

Well, I haven't uploaded anything in an enormously long time (very remiss of me) for which I feel quite ashamed! Here then, to make amends, is a little doodle I did to stick behind the plastic window of my purse.

Marco Polo

A little portrait of the traveller Marco Polo that I collaged together as part of my research for journies.

Piggy-lets!

I work in a local farm shop and it's dairy and on my lunch break a couple of days ago I went to sit under a tree in Home field. Just there, in the field, were two sows and their little piglets. They were soooooo cute!!! I didn't have a camera with me but I did have a pen and sketchbook :)

Summer Brief

My beautified title page for my summer brief! We had to choose a theme and explore it. I chose journies as I'd just got back from America for my friends wedding when the brief arrived in the post and I was feeling inspired!
